The emir who spoke through the senior councilor in the palace, Wamban Kano, Alhaji Abbas Sanusi, stressed the need for the media to assist in the sustenance of Nigerian democracy, adding that Kano Emirate Council will continue to assist media organizations in the state to enable them discharge their duties effectively.
He commended the executives of the NMMA for choosing Kano to be the host of this year’s gathering.
In his speech, the chairman of the Merit Award, Ambassador Segun Olusola commended the state government for the support and cooperation accorded the NMMA to hold this year's occasion and thanked the Emir of Kano, and the entire people of Kano for the hospitality accorded the participants of the award night.
