Shekarau salutes Kano media

KANO state government has expressed appreciation on the contributions of media organisations for the various successes the government recorded in the last five years.
Speaking during a dinner organsied in honour of the 2008 delegates of the Nigerian Media Merit Award by the Kano government at Africa House, Governor Ibrahim Shekarau noted that media organsiations have vital role to play in the development of any society.
He told the visiting delegates that in view of its zeal to ensure that the state owned media organizations meet up with their corporate objectives and present challenges in the media cycle, his administration has released the sum of N226 million and N326 million respectively to Radio Kano and state television (CTV 44) for the purchase and procurement of transmitters and other broadcasting equipments.
Similarly, the governor disclosed that the state owned newspaper outfit, The Triumph Publishing Company Limited also received various allocations to the tune of N78 million within the last five years to enable it perform its duties effectively.
He then used the avenue to call on media practitioners to always remain focused by being objective in their reporting, as well as shun false reports as doing so will not do any good to them and the society.
On the merit award night, he described the occasion as unique because it brings together a galaxy of illustrious media personalities to the state to celebrate achievements and performances, thanking the leadership of the Nigerian Media Merit Award fachievements so far in improving the standard of media practices.
While thanking them for the choice of Kano as the venue for their programmes, he noted that such choice was an indication of the recognition of the entire Nigerian journalists accord the state, describing the state's position as unique in the scheme of things in Nigeria because of its cosmopolitan nature, commercial activities and as a home of radical politics.
The governor who reads-out the various achievements recorded by his administration over the last five years, enjoined the visitors to avail themselves of their presence by undertaking a tour of parts of the state so as to see practically the projects executed.
In his remark, a board member of the Nigerian Media Merit Award, Prince Tony Momoh described Governor Shekarau as a person who cares for human development, thanking him for his steadfastness in the execution of development projects in the state as well as for payment of pension to pensioners.
While commending the governor for hosting the delegates which he said were about 400, he also congratulated the governor for the just concluded bye-elections in the state where ANPP won.
In a vote of thanks, an administrator of the NMMA, Mr. Yemi Akeju, expressed appreciation with the hospitality of Kano government, its people and all the media practitioners that came to attend the occasion.
Earlier, a multi-media presentation titled: ``This is Kano'' was shown to the visiting delegates by CTV 44, and later Special Media Heroes Tribute Night was conducted in the Government House’ open air theatre with music and fanfares.or its
