Nigeria’s electoral system better than US’ — Iwu
As U.S. citizens commenced voting yesterday to elect their new President, INEC Chairman, Prof. Maurice Iwu, said America had a lot to learn from Nigeria .
He said this in Abuja while speaking with the State House Correspondents after his meeting with President Umaru Musa Yar’adua at the Presidential Villa in Abuja .
Iwu said the Nigerian electoral system was better than that of the U.S.
Asked to comment on the specific areas where the U.S. could learn from Nigeria , the INEC chief said the Americans should learn to keep a national voters’ register.
The INEC chairman said they should also learn to hold presidential election in one day, rather than staggering it over several days, as they do in the case of early voting.
“They should learn to keep voters’ register and they should learn to hold elections in one day,” Iwu said.
