Provost commends WICE’s activities to sustain children’s lives
Stories By ABDULLAHI ABBA HASSAN
THE Women in Colleges of Education 13th Annual National Conference (WICE), with a theme: “Eradicating Human Trafficking and Child Labour in the 21st Century,” was described as not only relevant but pushful as it would reiterate the need to stop dehumanising and retrogressive acts and ensure a good and sustainable life for our children and the nation at large.”
The description was made by the Provost of Federal College of Education (FCE) Kano, Prof. Muhammad Yahaya Bichi, during the opening ceremony of the conference which was held at the college Ploughouft Auditorium.
The Provost who was represented by the college Registrar, Alhaji Aliyu Muhammad, commended WICE for keeping her head out of the rough waters in spite of all odds especially the hazards in arrangements and prayed to Almighty Allah to continue to inspire them to guide the generality of women, men and children.
“That WICE chose this college to host this conference as a mark of confidence reposed in us. I assure you of the management continued cooperation. This college is known also for its relative peace because it is cultists-free and the students and lecturers are highly disciplined,” he stated.
Prof. Bichi further revealed that the college has since been recording remarkable achievements in academics, sport, discipline, community development among others, adding that notable among the contributors to community development are the women of this college for their outstanding achievements dated back to October 19, 1986 when Federal College of Education Association (FEDWA), was established.
“It has not rested on its oars since then, they are into capacity building and have impacted on this community and outside it through specifics like education through the FEDWA nursery and primary school, workshops, orientation ceremonies for new students, skills acquisition, journals, counselling among others. Each tread by them is not only an indexical mark but indelible,” he said.
The Provost hoped that when the conference participants leave the college, it would be with a euphoria that would linger on for a long time to come.
Highlight of the occasion included presentation of awards to Hajiya Binta T. Ismail (Babiya); Dr. Hadiza Galadanci of Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, Kano and Hajiya Lami Summaiya Murtala of Freedom Radio, Kano.
