North: Economic backwardness a great worry -Gov Sheriff
From Sule Aliyu, Bauchi
The Executive Governor of Borno state Governor, Senator Ali Madu Sherriff says that the economic backwardness currently facing the Northern part of the country is a great worry to the entire governors of the North.
The Governor made the statement last Wednesday while chatting with journalists after he inspected the Borno state pavilion at the on-going 14th North East trade fair holding at IBB square in Bauchi.
He said the North East region has upper advantage than other parts of the country with a vast land that can accommodate all investors, hence the need for the Northern governors to unite and implement programmes that will improve the economy of the area and the nation in general.
“Northern governors are worried about the absence of viable industries in the North and we are all out to do something about it that is why we are at the trade fair in Bauchi after 10 years when the last one was hosted. We are all out to bring more investors to invest in the sub-region with the aim of boosting our economy” he said.
Commenting on the Kafin Zaki dam, Governor Madu Sherrif pointed out that the project is an important one to the sub region but there is need for the governors of the North East region to put heads together with the aim of actualizing the project.
He stated that every project needs feasibility study and Kafin Zaki dam is not an exception.
He, therefore suggested that the project requires collective idea and input by the governors that will move the project forward.
The Borno state governor explained that trade fair is an opportunity to expose the potentials of state investors, considering that the state has abundant agric and natural resources and when harnessed the state will be free from poverty.
