NGOs, individuals urged to emulate KNSG’s humanitarian gesture

Corporate and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) as well as wealthy individuals in Kano state have been called upon to emulate the humanitarian gesture of the state government by constantly donating relief materials for the less privileged in the community.
Malam Muhammad Bashir Abdul Durmin Iya, and executive member of Sani Lawan Kofar Mata Youth Forum (SLKMYF), made the appeal yesterday, while presenting clothing materials to the management of Kano State Relief and Rehabilitation Agency at Dorayi in Gwale local government area.
Durumin Iya, who extolled the humanitarian disposition of their patron, Alhaji Sani Lawan Kofar Mata, the Director General of the state Pilgrim's Welfare Board, urged people in high position and well-to-do members of the public to always have the interest of the masses at heart.
While commending the Shekarau administration for the continued support and assistance to the less-privileged in the state, Malam Muhammad however said the duty of providing succour to the needy is not for government alone but a collective responsibility and therefore called on the private sector, groups and organizations, including wealthy individuals, to imbibe the spirit of being their brothers' keepers.
He said, the Kano State Pilgrims Welfare Board DG is aware of the agency's needs and pledged to personally sponsor the medical bills of ten (10) inmates currently undergoing rehabilitation in the center.
Accepting the donated materials, including sixty (60) sets of ready-made gowns for male, the officer-in-charge of the agency, Malam Ado Musa Giginyu, thanked the Sani Lawan Kofar Mata Youth Forum for graciously donating the relief materials at the time they are most needed.
Malam Musa Ginginyu used the occasion to call on corporate organizations and meaningful individuals in the sate to emulate this gesture, adding that eventhough the state government is doing its best to carter for the welfare of the less-privileged, there is the need for other members of the general public to also come in and contribute to the rehabilitation agency inoder to achieve the desired objective.
Similarly, the forum visited the Psychiatric Hospital at Dawanau in Ungogo local government area, where it presented ready-made gowns for seventy (70) male patients and ninety (90) bundles of textile materials (Atampa) for the female patients.
Also commenting, Alhaji Sani Coach, another executive member of the Sani Lawan Kofar Mata Youth Forum said, their decision to donate the relief materials to the needy was informed by their patron's disposition, who has distinguished himself as a philanthropist and champion of the masses.
Alhaji Sani, who is also the managing director of Hikima Multimedia Consultants, however expressed satisfaction with the level of performance of the hospital and commended the state government for the support and assistance it renders to the hospital.
Responding, Dr. Auwal Abubakar, the hospital's Chief Medical Officer (CMO), expressed appreciation for the forum, while commending Alhaji Sani Lawan Kofar Mata for his untiring support to the needy whenever the need arises.
Earlier, Malam Ali Dan Abba, the public relation officer of the Jama'atu Izalatul-Bid'ah Wai'kamatus Sunnah in Kano, who led the delegation called on the good people of Kano to always stand up to the task of providing succour to the less-privileged as according to him, Islam places high emphasis on clarity and that Allah (SWT) will reward in manifolds those who are compassionate towards the masses.
The image-maker of the Islamic movement disclosed that the Izala in Kano state has established a committee that is vested with the task of identifying problems concerning underprivileged Muslims with the view to addressing them through massive public enlightenment campaign.
Malam Dan Abba therefore appealed to the various Imam of Friday Mosques in the state to always promote the concept of clarity and highlight on the imperative of assisting the less-privileged as according to him, government alone cannot make the desired input in the area of improved welfare of the citizens.
