NCNE adopts policies, programmes to boost educ sector

THE National Commission for Nomadic Education has adopted a lot of policies and programmes that will ensure the upliftment of educational sector in the country.
The executive secretary of the commission, Dr. Nafisatu Dahiru Muhammad stated this at a meeting with local government supervisors of Nomadic schools and some community leaders, held at the conference hall of the state Universal Basic Education Board, Kano.
Dr. Nafisatu said that it is part of the commission’s visit to three states in the North i.e. Kano, Jigawa and Katsina states with a view to discussing issues as well as identifying problems affecting Nomadic schools in the Northern part of the country.
A release signed by public relation officer of SUBEB, Kano, Malam Yusha’u Abdullahi Bichi and made available to Daily Triumph, indicated that Dr. Nafisatu who spoke at length on the importance of the Nomadic education in moving the society forward, said the commission is working tirelessly at all levels in mobilizing the Fulanis’ community and leaders to contribute their quota, especially in enrolling their children into schools and allowing them to further their studies up to university level for their future endeavour.
She decried over the attitude of some Fulanis who used to withdraw their children from schools, adding that children as leaders of tomorrow, there is the need for all hands to be on deck in encouraging them to acquire a quality education in order to move the nation forward.
During the meeting, the executive secretary of the commission however discussed on the importance of forming Parent-Teachers Associations in Nomadic schools and importance of rehabilitation and construction of schools, techniques of effective teaching and learning as well as literacy education.
Earlier speaking, the acting chairman of the SUBEB, Alhaji Hudu Sani Ibrahim appreciated the commitment of the National Commission of Nomadic Education in uplifting the standard of education, adding that the state government through the board, is not left behind in improving the nomadic education in the state.
Alhaji Hudu Sani who was represented by the Director, Nomadic Education, Alhaji Audi A. Baffa described the meeting and visit of the executive secretary as timely and a welcome development, which he said will go along way in providing an avenue of improving the system of Nomadic education in the Northern part of the country.
In another development, the state government has reaffirmed its commitment to support any move that will boost the standard of education.
The state commissioner for education, Alhaji Musa Salihu made the remarks at the presentation of award to teachers and students who won various prizes in sports and academic competitions during the 2007/2008 session.
Alhaji Musa Salihu said this has clearly indicated the manifestation of various efforts of reinvigorating human development through quality education rendered by the present administration, adding that Kano state has played role and made outstanding performance in various competitions in the sector, both at national and international levels.
In his welcome address, the acting chairman of the state Universal Basic Education Board, Alhaji Hudu Sani who spoke through the Director schools, Alhaji Bello Hussain Gwarzo, congratulated the awardees, which he said it a laudable achievement made by the board.
He then appreciated the contributions of parents and partners and all stakeholders who render their assistance towards the improvement of education in the state.
During the competition, Race Course Model Primary School emerged winner and first position in quiz, followed by Gwale Model Primary School, which won the second position, while Gwarzo Model Primary School came third position.
In the area of best primary school nationwide, the Race Course Model Primary also won the best position, followed by Hausawa Model Primary School, which won the president’s merit award.
Also in the Turkish Maths competition, Ahmad Dauda Suleiman from Race Course Model Primary School won the best position in the state out of over 17,000 candidates, according to a press release signed by the PRO of the board, Yusha’u Abdullahi Bichi.
