KNSG to intensify security at water treatment plants

KANO state government had resolved to intensify security at all the 14 water treatment sites in the state.
This was the resolution reached at the end of the central co-ordinating committee general meeting of the committees held at the conference hall of the deputy governor’s office.
Briefing, the deputy governor’s press crew, the vice-chairman of the committee Alhaji Mukhtar Kwaru, said this became necessary in view of the reported cases of stolen sets of machineries at Tiga and Thomas regional schemes recently.
He expressed dismay on a reported case of stolen electricity generator at Tiga regional scheme and an electricity generator and a transformer set at Thomas.
Alhaji Kwaru, stated that the Thomas regional schemes witnessed some technical failure of the schemes 2 Nos. high lift pumps and subsequently theft of 2 No. of generating sets along with transfomer of the plant.
He disclosed that properties worth more than N20 million was lost due to theft and expressed appreciation to Bebeji local government council for its pledge to replaced the stolen facilities.
He also, revealed that the construction of Rano booster station has reached 80 per cent completion, while the remaining works consist of rehabilitation of head water tank and the re-test running of the high lift pumps.
Similarly, he stated that all the 13 number regional schemes have been provided with monitoring vehicles by the government, to boost their activities.
According to him, all the regional scheme are presently fully functional except, the Thomas which resulted from the technical failure due to stolen facilities.
Alhaji Kwaru, pointed out that Joda scheme is with its 4 number functioning boreholes will pump water to Gabasawa and Gezawa local government areas.
