Censorship board warns film operators against fake staff
By NASIRU MUHAMMAD
OPERATORS of viewing centres in Kano state have been called upon to be wary of some dupers who go about collecting money in the name of the state film censorship board.
The call was made on Tuesday, 18th of November, 2008 by the Director General of the board, Ustaz Abdulkarim Rabo, in an interview with newsmen.
He cited a cases of some impersonator going about in Rogo and Karaye local government's areas and Kofar Wambai, all in the state parading themselves as the board staff and collect some amounts up to N16, 000.00 from innocent members of the society.
According to him, the impersonators tell their victims that they are collecting the money so as to generate revenue for the board.
"We are not revenue generating agencies but rather, a regulatory agency the very minimal amount we charge for the past seven years remains the same till today," he said.
He added that whoever claims to be a staff of the board should identify himself through a sealed identification card from the board that anyone who refuses to do that should be handed over to the nearest authorities.
Ustaz Rabo said the board does not allow any monetary transaction between its agents and stakeholders, stating that all transactions are in the banks or at the court.
"Some people are capitalizing on the acceptability and the impact the board has on the general public to commit mischief," he said.
The director- general explained that anyone who is to pay some money, say for license to the board is done through the banks after he has shown it the bank teller for such a permit.
In another development, the state tribunal on the activities of films has sentenced one Tasi'u Sani and 34 others in Doguwa local government to two months imprisonment for operating viewing centres without license or to pay N8000 for license and N2000 to the board.
