...Bauchi govt recovers diverted 3,000 bags of fertiliser
Bauchi state government said it had recovered 3,000 bags of fertilizer allegedly diverted by some transporters.
The commissioner for agriculture, Alhaji Tanko Dutse, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), in Bauchi that the five articulated vehicle-load of the commodity were recovered in Jos.
He said the recovery of the commodity followed a tip-off by informants that the trailers were in Jos.
Dutse explained that following the information, he went to Jos and recovered the commodities.
The commissioner said when he sought to know why the commodities were not released to the state, the drivers said they were not paid the money agreed.
According to him, I have brought the commodity to Bauchi and invited the management staff of the company that has been given the contract for the transportation of the commodity for a meeting.
The commissioner said Bauchi State had paid N19 million for the transportation of the commodity.
Dutse announced that the federal government had approved additional 18,000 tonnes of fertiliser for the next farming season.
He said the government had also applied for 10,000 tonnes for this year's dry season farming.
Dutse called on the people who were not able to purchase the commodity to be patient.
NAN recalls that the state government had spent N3.4 billion on the purchase and distribution of fertiliser to farmers this year.
