Kano motorists in 3-hour hold-up...As tanker driver,traffic warden clash, police cough out N25,000

THE settlement of a tanker driver to the tune of N25,000 by the Kano state Police Command averted what could have resulted in a serious clash between tanker drivers and police traffic wardens at Kantin Kwari Market junction by IBB Way in the metropolis yesterday.
According to eyewitness, trouble started when a traffic warden ordered the said tanker driver who was said to be on high speed to stop.

US-based Islamic Centre to honour Bayero, others

UNIVERSAL Islamic Centre of the United States of America is planning to honour late Hassan Ciessa, the emir of Kano, Alhaji (Dr) Ado Bayero and Khalipha Sheikh Isyaku Rabi‘u for their contributions to the development of Islam world over.
The President of the Centre, Sheikh Ahmad Tijjani Bin Umar made the disclosure when he paid a courtesy call on Emir Bayero at his palace yesterday.
Sheikh Umar explained that late Sheikh Hassan Ciessa would be honoured posthumously as a reward for his contribution to the progress of Islam, most especially to Dariqah in America and the world at large.

KNSG tackles refuse, road accidents ...Pumps more money to effect

IN its resolve to sanitise the environment, Kano state Executive Council yesterday approved the sum of N123,731,719.50 to be expended by the Refuse Management and Sanitation Board (REMASAB) for the purchase of additional equipment, rehabilitation of some existing ones and carrying out massive refuse evacuation programme.
According to a release signed by the state commissioner of information, Barr. Haruna Isa Dederi, the Council also noted that the progressive increase in traffic volume in the state is continuously causing rampant abuse of traffic regulations.

Befitting reception for Pillars soon --Kano dep gov

KANO state government has pledged to organise a befitting reception for both victorious Kano Pillars Basketball Team and Pillars Football Club for their wonderful performance in the domestic league and West African region, just as the government gives the basketball team a token gift of N.5million.
